A Piece Of Paper And A #2 Pencil
I’ve been thinking about this for a very long time, but have never taken the time to write it all down. I guess this would fall under the topic of “Things to Ponder”.
Have you ever stopped to think about all the things that can come to pass by giving someone one sheet of paper and a #2 pencil? Well think about it…
You could do the obvious, like write a letter or doodle. But, really think about it!
It could become a bill of sale, a plan for a new house, a map to a treasure or a map to an underground subway system. It could become a pencil sketch that comes before a masterpiece, or a note between secret lovers. It could be a marriage license or a divorce decree. It could be a spit ball, a paper plane, or the U.S. Constitution. It could be a sign that says “KEEP OUT!” or, “Come in and see what’s new”. It could become the music and lyrics for the next greatest hit or folded carefully into an origami bird with a penciled-on eye. You could write a declaration of war or a treaty of peace. You could make a certificate of award for a job well done. You could fold the paper and drink water from the cup, or maybe just stuff a box with the paper and write the address with the pencil. You could make a puzzle for your kids or maybe even start to write a book. You could draw a cartoon, design a dress, create plans for a bomb, write a birth announcement, or tear out a snowflake. You could blot your lipstick and write a sweet nothing beside it or make a party hat or a boat to sail. You could write a will, a grocery list, a receipt, a recipe, a phone number, or draw a dot-to-dot. You could write a suicide note if you are through. You could wrap a gift or maybe just clean the mud off your boot!
Or, you could just fold the piece of paper and put it in your pocket and put the pencil behind your ear and just think about it for a while….
